2 Disappointing…

Kung Fu Panda 2 : 3-D
Rating (out of 5 stars):  **

"One-two! One-two! Same-old, same-old..."

Po, the martial arts panda is back, and the black-and-white truth of it is that the sequel lacks the warmth and consistent fun of its predecessor. It relies too heavily on fighting action – which I find grows tedious after the first couple of volleys. Of course, no matter what I say, kids will probably break down the doors to get to Kung Fu Panda 2 3-D.

The film’s saving grace is its visual splendour – from plot expositions that are performed in a shadow puppet style, to the breathtaking stereoscopic realisation of early Chinese towns and villages. And I’ll also concede that the writing, voice performance, and animation, of Po’s feathery adoptive father is quite charming. But the film’s joys taper off from there, and Jack Black’s wise cracks are so last decade…
